2013 Distinguished Alumni Awards

The 2013 recipients are:
· Valerie Jarrett, ’81. Valerie is senior advisor to President Obama and head of four departments in the White House. She previously was president and CEO of Habitat Company, a Chicago-based real estate firm, and was deputy chief of staff to Mayor Richard M. Daley. She was named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2013. (Note: Recent events in Washington halted Jarrett’s plans to receive her award in person. Broderick Johnson’ 83, a friend and colleague of Valerie’s was on hand to accept the award on her behalf.
· John Nannes, ’73. John is a partner in the Antitrust Group at Skadden and was deputy assistant attorney general and acting assistant attorney general in the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice from 1998-2001. He is the benefactor of the Nannes 3L Challenge Giving Program for Michigan Law students and recent graduates, and serves as chair of the Development and Alumni Relations Committee as well as chair of the Law School’s Victors for Michigan campaign.
· Ted St. Antoine, ’54. Ted is the James E. and Sarah A. Degan Professor of Law Emeritus and was dean of the Law School from 1971-78, leading the expansion of the law library. He spent some 40 years as an arbitrator and is a past president of the National Academy of Arbitrators. He is the co-editor of a leading textbook on employment law and author of numerous law review articles.
